The recent research activities in the physics of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in the earth's magnetosphere and on the ground will be reviewed focussing on Pc 3, Pc 4–5, Pi 2 and ssc-associated magnetic pulsations. MHD studies have been extensively developed due to improvement both in observational techniques and in theoretical works since IMS period (1976–1979) and succeeding years. However, there are still unresolved problems to be reserved to future studies. In the present paper, future research directions will be also given.
