Description: This section provides a comprehensive description of the extreme solar eruptive events of 2003 October-November that had serious consequences felt in the entire heliosphere. The propagation and heliospheric impact of energetic plasma, electromagnetic radiation, and energetic particles from the eruptions on the Sun into the heliosphere was recorded with unprecedented detail, and hence led to bench-marking of extreme solar events. The section took shape after two AGU special sessions during the Fall 2003 and Spring 2004 and resulted in a set of more than 70 publications in AGU journals.
