Call for Nominations for the 2009 Donald L. Turcotte Award

 

 

The Nonlinear Geophysics Focus Group of AGU is seeking nominations for the 2009 Donald L. Turcotte Award. This award, to be presented annually at the Fall Meeting, will recognize the scientific accomplishments of a recent recipient of of a Ph. D. (or equivalent degree) for outstanding dissertation research that contributes directly to nonlinear geophysics.

 

The major criterion for the award will be the impact or potential impact of the research on the field of nonlinear geophysics. The award will consist of a certificate and a $200 credit toward AGU services, and the awardee will have the opportunity to deliver an invited paper on the dissertation topic in an appropriate NG session at the AGU Fall Meeting following the selection.  

 

The research advisors of the nominee will make the nomination, and each nomination must be accompanied by one to three supporting letters from other members of the thesis committee or other scientists familiar with the research. The nomination will also include a copy of the dissertation, preferably in digital media. Ph. D. recipients who have completed their degree requirements during the period 1 July 2008– 30 June 2009   will be eligible for the 2009 award. The deadline for the receipt of the nomination package is 31 July 2009.
