Call for Nominations for the 2009 Donald L. Turcotte
Award
The
Nonlinear Geophysics Focus Group of AGU is seeking nominations for the 2009
Donald L. Turcotte Award. This award, to be presented annually at the Fall
Meeting, will recognize the scientific accomplishments of a recent recipient of
of a Ph. D. (or equivalent degree) for outstanding
dissertation research that contributes directly to nonlinear geophysics.
The
major criterion for the award will be the impact or potential impact of the
research on the field of nonlinear geophysics. The award will consist of a
certificate and a $200 credit toward AGU services, and the awardee
will have the opportunity to deliver an invited paper on the dissertation topic
in an appropriate NG session at the AGU Fall Meeting following the
selection.
The
research advisors of the nominee will make the nomination, and each nomination
must be accompanied by one to three supporting letters from other members of
the thesis committee or other scientists familiar with the research. The
nomination will also include a copy of the dissertation, preferably in digital
media. Ph. D. recipients who have completed their degree requirements during
the period 1 July 2008– 30 June 2009
will be eligible for the 2009 award. The deadline for the receipt of the
nomination package is 31 July 2009.
