WELCOME Click here for Special Announcements, Welcome to the web pages of AGU´s Cryosphere Focus Group. Cryospheric science studies the portion of the Earth's surface where water is in a solid form, usually snow or ice. This includes ice sheets, glaciers, sea ice, freshwater ice, snow, and frozen ground (or permafrost). The Cryosphere Focus Group acts as a liaison between the cryospheric science research community and AGU administration. It is a vehicle to promote and strengthen cryospheric science within AGU, as well as ensure that our needs as a scientific community are met through AGU Meetings and Publications. |

We were renamed "Cryosphere Focus Group" in 2002, replacing the former Snow, Ice and Permafrost Technical Committee. We have gown in strength since this change, reflected in a significant increase in contributions at the AGU Fall Meeting: from 120 abstracts in 5 sessions in 2002 to 500 abstracts in 33 sessions in 2008. In December 2007, there were 492 AGU members who chose Cryosphere as their primary affiliation. The Focus Group is managed by an Executive Committee, who are in regular communication over email and meet once per year during the Fall meeting. The goal of this web site is to make relevant and timely information available to the cryospheric science community. The site is updated regularly and you will find highlights of AGU developments of interest to cryospheric scientists as well as opportunities to give your input into AGU and Cryosphere Sciences Focus Group activities.
