AGU member since 1983. Professor of Geophysics (since 1991), Director of Cecil H. and Ida M. Green Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, and Earth Section Head, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. Major research interests are using paleomagnetism to study the geodynamo; geomagnetic field modeling and secular variation studies using paleomagnetic, historical, and modern observations; electrical conductivity studies of Earth's mantle; statistical methods and inverse problems, especially applied to studying the paleomagnetic field; paleomagnetic databases.
