Research interests include solar wind-magnetosphere coupling, ULF wave phenomena, magnetospheric substorms, magnetic storms, and space weather forecasting. Published 202 refereed papers, 146 in AGU journals. Six additional refereed papers have appeared in AGU monographs. Served on a number of NASA and National Academy committees concerned with data archiving and distribution. Financial secretary of IAGA and a member of the International Service of Geomagnetic Indices (ISGI) advisory board. AGU service as Fellow since 1995. Nominated several successful candidates for AGU Fellowship. Organized a number of AGU symposia and chaired several AGU sessions. Coorganizer of the 2005 Chapman Conference on Recurrent Magnetic Storms and coeditor of the AGU Monograph.
