Honors at AGU
AGU has a diverse program for recognizing members and others who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the geophysical sciences, to the service of the community, and to the public’s understanding. Candidates may be nominated by any AGU member.
Fellows
This designation is conferred upon not more than 0.1% of all AGU members in any given year. New Fellows are chosen by a Committee of Fellows.

Union Medals and Awards
Recipients are selected by committees specifically appointed for that purpose and are confirmed by the Executive Committee.

Bowie Lectures
This series of named lectures was inaugurated in 1989 to commemorate the 50th presentation of the William Bowie Medal, which is AGU’s highest honor and was named for AGU’s first president.
