This database covers the IUGG XXI General Assembly. Searches can be entered as natural language or Boolean expressions.
WAIS does a simple keyword search on each word entered. A ranking algorithm that takes account of frequency and position of keywords gives each hit a score and the highest scoring record (1000) is listed first. Clicking on an item in the hit list will display the corresponding database record in full with the search terms highlighted in bold. The fields and layout of database records are described below. The size in bytes of each record in the hit list is also is given; larger items are for records with full abstracts which were submitted electronically by the author. The last entry in the hit list gives an analysis of search results.
Keywords separated by spaces will result in an illogical OR. Use AND to separate words that are both to be contained in the record, e.g. Gulf Stream will retrieve items containing either Gulf or Stream or both, which is the same result as searching Gulf OR Stream, whereas Gulf AND Stream retrieves first those records containing both Gulf and Stream.
Use * for truncation, e.g. seism* will retrieve seismic, seismology, seismicity, seismogram etc.
To search for an author, enter the last name without initials.
There are three types of records: (1) program details for all presentations, including time, abstract number, title, author; (2) complete abstracts if submitted to AGU by the author in electronic form, including abstract title, author, affiliation, phone, email, abstract text, section, descriptors; and (3) session entries, which include session code, symposium code, location, day, session name, and presiding session convenor.
Searching by specific fields or combinations of fields will be available in the near future.
