Chapman Conferences
Take part in a world-renowned AGU Chapman conference! Named in honor of Sydney Chapman, a mathematician and physicist recognized for his research in geophysics, the AGU Chapman Conference Program has encouraged innovative research for over 35 years. AGU Chapman conferences are small, topical meetings designed to permit in-depth exploration of specialized subjects in a manner not possible at large meetings. They are structured to encourage discussion related to disciplinary and newly emerging research fields and offer opportunities to revisit areas that warrant a new look. Convened worldwide, these conferences provide significant time for discussion and interaction among distinguished experts, students, and young professionals in the Earth and space sciences. Recent locations include Cyprus, Cambodia, England, India, Canada, Chile, and the United States.
The typical size of an AGU Chapman conference is 125 participants, although successful meetings have been held with as few as 50 attendees. Significant attendance by graduate students and foreign scientists is encouraged.
