Poker Flat Research Range

Poker Flat Research Range Itinerary [pdf]

The meeting site, Fairbanks, is near the Poker Flat Research Range (http://www.pfrr.alaska.edu/), which is the world’s only scientific rocket launching facility owned by a university. Poker Flat is located approximately 30 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska, and is operated by the University of Alaska’s Geophysical Institute. In addition to launching sounding rockets, Poker Flat is home to many scientific instruments designed to study the arctic atmosphere and ionosphere. The proximity will allow a half-day evening (5:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.) field trip on both Tuesday, March 1 and Thursday, March 3 for participants to tour some of the facilities. Dinner and aurora viewing opportunities will be provided along the way. Trip costs, including bus transportation and dinner, are part of the registration fee. Facility tours are free. Please note that space is limited for each day’s trip; thus, each participant may only attend the Poker Flat Research Range once during the week. Note: please specify any dietary restrictions during the online registration process.
