This conference is sponsored by the American Geophysical Union, James Cook University, the Geological Society of Australia, and the IAVCEI, to concern various aspects of long lava flow phenomena. The conference will be coordinated with the AGU Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting being held in Brisbane, Australia (July 23-27, 1996), so that interested participants can attend that meeting after the Long Flow Excursion.
Likely Perspectives Include:
The program includes two days for scientific papers. A seven-day field excursion will examine details of 3 long basalt flows in North Queensland: Toomba (120 km), Undara (160 km) and Kinrara (60 km) in rural, outback Queensland. These are very long lavas are remarkable for their gradients, around a third of a degree. An excursion guidebook will be published.
Abstracts may be submitted for oral or poster presentation; there will be a published volume of abstracts for the conference. Abstracts should be up to two pages in length including references and figures on A4, Times 12 pt font, single-spacing. Abstracts should be sent to:
