AGU Career Center

Academic Forum | Career Workshop
Career Opportunities

The Career Center, sponsored by the Committee on Education and Human Resources (CEHR), is held at AGU's Spring, Fall, and Ocean Sciences Meetings. It assists geoscientists seeking employment and employers looking for staff with scientific training. Employers may review current resumes, meet with highly-skilled candidates, and post open positions. Job candidates may submit their resume, browse through positions posted by employers, and meet with employers.

The Career Center at the 2000 Fall Meeting will be located in Exhibit Hall D of the Moscone Center, and will be open Friday through Monday, December 15-18, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Tuesday, December 16, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Staff will be available to assist candidates and employers and to set up interviews.

This year the CEHR will sponsor an Academic Forum. The Academic Forum will enable representatives from PhD programs to recruit undergraduates and current Masters students.

Pre-registered jobs will be posted on the AGU Web site (http://www.agu.org) prior to the meeting. This will give potential job candidates a chance to prepare for a possible interview or to drop off a resume.

Put Your Science To Work: Practical Career Strategies for Scientists and Engineers

Saturday, December 16, 6:30 - 8:00
Location: Moscone Center, Room 120

Searching for a job?

The job market for scientists is more complex than ever. Traditional career paths are changing and new opportunities are opening in a variety of professions. The AGU Committee on Education and Human Resources is sponsoring a lecture and discussion with Dr. Peter S. Fiske, author of "Put your Science To Work (AGU, 2000)." Topics for discussion include: identifying your skills and career goals, strengthening your network, new technologies for job hunting, and strategies for maximizing your options. Resumé advice will also be available. Please refer to the AGU Web site, http://www.agu.org/sci_soc/resumeguide.html, for tips on resumé writing.

A reception and book signing will follow the lecture.
