Computational Geoinformatics for Solid Earth Sciences
Preceeding Reception Sponsored by IBM & Cray Inc.
Moscone West, Room 3024
1930h

This is a follow-up town meeting from the 2003 AGU Fall Meeting, and a workshop held in May in Washington, D. C., on the present and future computational needs of the solid Earth science, that is, everything that falls in the purview of the EAR Division at NSF. We have five focus groups on Hardware, Software, Visualization and Data Analysis, Networks and Grid Computing, and Scientific Frontiers. We are now preparing a white paper. (See http://www.gl.ciw.
edu/~cohen/meetings/geoinf2004/index.htm for more information.) This town meeting will present a summary of the results of our examination of these issues to date, and solicit comments from the community.
