| Description: | Disturbance is a factor that directly and indirectly regulates terrestrial carbon cycling. As part of the North American Carbon Program, a synthesis of research on disturbance was recently initiated. While this synthesis is primarily focused on the impacts of disturbance on carbon cycling in forests, disturbances in other ecosystems are also being reviewed. This session is soliciting both oral and poster papers on the following topic areas: (a) quantification of the areal extent and severity of disturbances; (b) assessments of the impacts of disturbance on carbon fluxes and carbon cycling based on observations (including field-based research, eddy covariance towers, and analysis of satellite remote sensing data); and (c) modeling of the effects of disturbance on carbon emissions and carbon cycling. Papers in this session will include syntheses of the results from multiple research projects, as well as those that present the results of individual studies. |
