Limb Sounder Instruments

Job Description:
To support the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The applicant will work with scientists in the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office to incorporate limb-sounder data into the assimilation system. Initial focus will be on temperature retrieved from the Microwave Limb Sounder on EOS-Aura, but will expand to other instruments and other quantities. Work will involve construction of suitable observation operators and error covariance models for the limb-sounder data, along with numerical experimentation to assess impacts of these data and the accuracy of the resulting analyses.

Required Skills:
Working knowledge of middle atmospheric dynamics and physics. Working knowledge of Fortran 90, IDL, GrADS and other scientific software. Experience working with multi-node computing. Working knowledge of middle atmospheric data types and their accuracy, data assimilation, and instrument data characteristics.

Desired Skills:
Working knowledge of limb sounder data.

Education:
Requires a PhD or MS in Atmospheric Sciences, Physical Sciences or Mathematics.
