Atmospheric Research Scientist

Job Description:
Remote sensing scientist with experience in retrieval of aerosol optical properties using Imagers, AVHRR/VHRR, MODIS, and OMI on GOES, INSAT, POES, EOS, and other satellites, for comparison/quality control of the NOAA/NESDIS Hazard Mapping System (HMS), and analysis of smoke plumes from fires. Successful candidate will develop aerosol retrieval algorithms, interpret data including visible and IR imagery to validate results, and generate products in GRIB and emerging data formats. Familiarity with radiative transfer models, cloud physics, aerosol physics, cloud-aerosol interactions, meteorological data formats, ray tracing and principles of remote sensing is required, including 6S, T-MATRIX, SBDART and Fu-Liou. This position requires strong computer programming skills in IDL, C/C++, and FORTRAN, as well as knowledge of Unix/Linux working environment.
