Rock and Paleomagnetism Short Course

Professor Lisa Tauxe of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography will teach a course designed for Earth Science students and professionals. The course serves as an introduction to rock and paleomagnetism using the Lectures in Paleomagnetism course materials and software. Topics will include: 1) applied rock magnetism, 2) field and lab procedures, 3) directions, poles and paleointensity, and 4) anisotropy data. The instructional format will begin with a brief introductory lecture followed by a hands-on tutorial using “real” data.

This bilingual program for families will have Sunspotters and H-alpha telescopes to check out the Sun, UV beads to investigate the effect of light, a movie in the dome, and more. Este programa en inglés y español dará la oportunidad a las familias para ver el sol con instrumentos especiales, investigar el efecto de la luz en perlas de ultravioleta, el cine en cúpula, y mucho más.
