American Society of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), with over 3,800 members worldwide, has advanced the interest of aquatic scientists for more than 50 years, and continues to build on its tradition of providing an outstanding journal, meetings that transcend the traditional disciplinary boundaries, and activities that unify and foster the aquatic sciences.
American Geophysical Union (AGU) is an international scientific society of 39,000 members, more than thirty percent of whom come from outside the U.S. As a society we are dedicated to advancing the understanding of Earth and its environment in space and making results available to the public.

Honolulu is located on Oahu, an island of magnificent panoramas, ringed with white sand beaches, capped by towering volcanic peaks. Oahu is considered "the gathering place," with more hotels, restaurants, and major attractions than all of the other islands combined, and the "world's best beach," at Waikiki. No matter where you turn, there is a new vista to be discovered, or another attraction to enjoy. The Hawaii Maritime Museum, located at Pier 7 in Honolulu Harbor, features Hawaii's ocean legacy. The museum chronicles the ancient Hawaiians who navigated the Pacific some 1500 years before Europeans, the whaling era, the golden age of ocean liners, and today's ocean sports.
A variety of ethnic and cultural food will be provided to showcase the best of what Hawaii can offer. A cash bar will be available for beer, wine, and specialty drinks. The ticket fee of $25.00 per person includes hors d'oeuvres, entrance to the museum, and round-trip shuttle service between the convention center and the museum.

The AGU Career Center is a service sponsored by the AGU Committee on Education and Human Resources for geoscientists seeking employment and employers looking for staff with scientific training.
For the 2002 Ocean Sciences Meeting, the Career Center is a free, self-serve operation. Please note that a copy machine and separate interview space will not be available at this meeting.
Job Candidates: Come to the Career Center daily and view the job postings on the Opportunities Board. Bring five copies of your resume to place in the Candidate Resume Book that will be available for review by prospective employers. Be sure to get a Candidate Number and check the Communication Board daily for messages from employers trying to set up interview appointments. The latest statistics on jobs and careers in geosciences will also be posted.
Employers: Please register (no cost) in the Employer Book and post your available positions on the Career Center Opportunities Board. Identify prospective employees by reviewing the Candidate Resume Book compilation of meeting participants seeking employment. Fees are $6.00 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum. Child care services are a contractual agreement between each individual and the child care company. ASLO and AGU assume no responsibility for the services rendered.

The Coastal Processes (CoOP) Program Open Meeting

This open meeting will address the buoyancy-driven transport research initiative goals and plans and provide an opportunity to develop collaborative groups for interdisciplinary research proposals in response to the pending Announcement of Opportunity. Town Meeting: Toward a Community Coastal Sediment-Transport Model

This Town Meeting will update the community on progress toward an open-source coastal sediment-transport model. We envision a wide and collaborative effort among interested scientists, engineers, modelers, and model users to refine one (or more) of the existing sediment-transport models for use as a test platform. This Town Meeting will complement scientific discussions of coastal sediment-transport modeling (e.g., Sessions OS12B, OS21J, and OS22K, Application and Assessment of Coastal Sediment Transport Models). Panelists will define key issues and critique current approaches in sediment-transport modeling and discuss scientific objectives and challenges associated with model development.

This open meeting will discuss the effects of the events of September 11 on the Ocean Sciences. A panel of representatives from the Ocean Sciences community, as well as various ocean-related agencies, will present their perspectives, followed by a discussion period.
Repeat Hydrography Effort in the U.S. Town Meeting

The repeat hydrography working group has been established to support the objectives of the U.S. Carbon Cycle Program and US CLIVAR. It is tasked to provide background information on the scientific rationale and scope of an integrated approach to a global observational program for carbon, hydrographic and tracer measurements. Based on this information a observational plan has been developed. The presentation will cover the current status of implementation and timing of sections, core measurements, and data management protocol.
