| Description: | The Gulf of Mexico is a major resource for the economies of the U.S. and Mexico. It is also a haven for studying mesoscale eddies, both near-surface and deep, and their interaction with topography, for understanding wind, river and eddy-driven shelf and slope circulation, for studying ocean-hurricane coupled responses, and for exploring hypotheses of the dynamical connection between the Gulf and the neighboring Caribbean Sea and the large-scale Atlantic Ocean. Recent observations and models from various groups have shed light into our understanding of some of these processes. This session aims to further cross-fertilize new ideas and research. |
