Preregistration Deadline: April 28, 2000

Preregistration for the Spring Meeting is now closed. Individuals must now register on-site at the Washington Convention Center. Registration hours are listed below.

Ordering of Spring Meeting Abstracts

Abstracts are available only to subscribers or to meeting participants who purchase them. There will be a limited quantity available for purchase at the meeting.

If you paid for the 2000 abstract volume with your membership renewal, it was mailed to as a regular subscription with the May 9, 2000, issue of Eos.

Please note that there will be no refunds for abstract volumes.

On-Site Registration Hours

On-site registration will be located in the Washington Convention Center Lobby.

Guest Registration

Guests or spouses not attending the scientific sessions may register at the meeting at no charge. Guests who wish to attend a section event or the Honors Banquet must purchase tickets. Tickets may not be available for purchase at the meeting.

Receipt

If you preregistered for the meeting, an official receipt will be attached to your badge, which will be given to you at the preregistration desk on-site.

To Make Reservations
The preregistration deadline has now passed. Reservations now must be made directly with the hotels. Hotel phone numbers are listed above. Reservations will be received on a first-come, first-served basis, at prevailing rates.

In Washington, D.C., all hotels require a deposit of $150 US per room. Deposits are required for all reservations. Major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and Diners Club) are accepted.

Confirmation of Reservation
For reservations made with the Housing Bureau, they will send you a confirmation. Review it carefully for accuracy as this is the only confirmation you will receive. Room confirmation will only be sent to the primary person requesting the reservation. If you do not receive a confirmation via e-mail, fax, or mail within 14 days after sending the request, please contact the Housing Bureau toll-free at 1-800-492-7886.

For reservations made directly with the hotel, the hotel will send you a confirmation notice. Be sure to ask the reservation clerk for the confirmation when making your reservation, and inquire about the hotel's cancellation policy.

Changes/Cancellations/Refund Policy
Call the hotel holding your reservation directly to make any changes or cancellations. For reservations made via the housing bureau, cancellations received after April 28, 2000, but at least 72 hours in advance of your arrival date, will be assessed a $16.00 processing fee. Refunds will be processed by the hotel approximately 60-90 days after the meeting. Any cancellations made within 72 hours of arrival are subject to forfeiture of the entire deposit.

Student Housing

 The deadline for reservations has now passed.

Changes or cancellations to existing reservations must be made in writing directly to AGU. Cancellations between April 21 and May 12 are subject to a $20 cancellation fee. No refunds will be made after May 12, 2000.

Airline Discounts

AIRLINE DISCOUNTS
Save money on your travel costs to Washington, D.C.! Book early and take advantage of the special discount fares that give you the greatest savings!

United Airlines is the official airline for the Spring Meeting. United is offering a 10% discount off the unrestricted mid-week coach fare or 5% discount off the lowest applicable fares, including First Class. An additional 5% discount will apply when tickets are purchased at least 60 days in advance of your travel date. Discounts also apply on United Express and Shuttle by United flights. Mileage Plus members receive full credit for all miles flown to this meeting.

To obtain these special discount fares, you or your travel agent must call United's toll-free number, 1-800-521-4041 and refer to the Meeting ID Number 583PB. Dedicated reservationists are on duty 7 days a week from 7:00 A.M.–12:00 midnight Eastern Standard Time.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
Participants traveling from outside the United States may wish to purchase accident and medical insurance protection during their visit to Boston. Seabury and Smith, an association service organization, offers coverage through their Gateway USA program. Insurance must be purchased for a minimum of 15 days, up to a maximum of 60 days. Kennedy Center

 A limited number of tickets is still available for the National Sympony Orchestra (NSO), Thursday, June 1, 2000, 7:00 P.M. The NSO will perform pieces by Bach, Berg, and Prokofiev, with Leonard Slatkin, conductor, and Kyung Wha Chung, violin. Tickets are $50 per person.

Tickets are no longer available for the Bolshoi Ballet.

Message and Information Center

A telephone message and information center will be located in the registration area of the Washington Convention Center, Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M., and Saturday, 8:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. Limited fax and photocopying services will also be available.

Public Information

As part of AGU's goal to promote public understanding of geophysics, AGU operates a newsroom and holds news conferences at its national meetings. News releases and copies of journal articles about research being presented at the meeting are made available to reporters in the newsroom.

If you are presenting research that could be of interest to the general public, you should contact the public information office at your institution or agency in advance of the meeting for help in writing a news release. Job Center

The Career Center will be located in the Washington Convention Center, Wednesday through Friday, 8:30 A.M.–5:00 P.M.

Employers: Need to fill a position? Take advantage of AGU's Career Center service. Register at the center and post your positions. You can review hundreds of resumes for a small fee.

Job Candidates: Looking for a new position? Come to the Career Center daily and view the job postings. Bring five copies of your resume for review by potential employers. All job candidates must be registered for the meeting.

Child Care

KiddieCorp will offer professional child care services at the Spring Meeting, Tuesday, May 30 through Friday, June 2, 8:15 A.M.–5:15 P.M., and Saturday, June 3, 8:15 A.M.-12:15 P.M. Fees are $6.00 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum.

Accessibility for Registrants with Disabilities

AGU wants to ensure that all people have access to the sessions and events they wish to attend at this meeting.If you have special needs, AGU will work with its vendors to provide reasonable support in these cases. Such cases may include, but are not limited to, providing wheelchairs, specially equipped hotel sleeping rooms, or TDD systems. Exhibits

Exhibits will be located in Exhibit Hall D of the Washington Convention Center. Be sure to make plans to stop and visit with the exhibitors. The various exhibits on display will include instrumentation equipment, computer software programs, books, and programs sponsored by government agencies, plus many more.

Exhibits will be open Wednesday through Friday, May 31–June 2, 8:30 A.M.–5:00 P.M. The AGU Booth will be also open Tuesday, May 30, 8:30 A.M.-5:00 P.M. and Saturday, June 3, 8:30 A.M.–3:00 P.M., in the Lobby. The AGU Booth will sell books, journals, maps, memberships, gift items, and memorabilia.

Exhibitors: AGU offers you the opportunity to present your geophysical instruments, computer software and hardware, equipment, books, and educational, research, association, and government programs as an exhibitor at the 2000 Spring Meeting. The exhibit booth fee includes complimentary meeting registrations, abstract volumes, and programs.
