Registration Information

Registrations will no longer be accepted at the AGU office. Individuals must register on-site.

Ordering of Spring Meeting Abstracts

Abstracts are available to customers who renew with membership or have subscriptions, or can be purchased with meeting registration. AGU members and subscribers: If you paid for the 2001 abstract volume with your membership renewal, a printed version will be mailed to you with the 15 May 2001, issue of Eos as part of the regular subscription.

Meeting registrants: You can pre-order abstracts for pick up at the meeting in either CD-ROM or printed formats. Printed paper abstract volumes are $15 each; CD-ROM abstract volumes are $8 each. There is no advance shipping of either version of the abstracts. In order to ensure your copy of the abstract volume, your order must have been received by 20 April. A limited quantity of volumes will be available for sale at the meeting. Refunds are not given for the purchase of Spring Meeting abstracts.

Guest Registration

A guest is a spouse, friend, or an adult child (18 and over) who is not in a geophysical sciences-related occupation or field. A co-worker or an associate working in a related geophysical sciences field or studying geophysics in school may not use the Guest Registration category. Registered guests may visit exhibits and social events, and may purchase tickets at advertised rates for the ticketed events.

Guests who wish to attend a section event or the Honors Banquet must purchase tickets in advance.

Receipt

The official receipt will be attached to the badge that is given to you at the preregistration desks at the meeting.

Airline Discounts

Save money on your travel costs to Boston! Book early and take advantage of the special discount fares that give you the greatest savings!

United Airlines United is offering a 10% discount off the unrestricted mid-week coach fare or 5% discount off the lowest applicable fares, including First Class. An additional 5% discount will apply when tickets are purchased at least 60 days in advance of your travel date. Discounts also apply on United Express and Shuttle by United flights. Mileage Plus members receive full credit for all miles flown to this meeting. To obtain these special discount fares, you or your travel agent must call United's toll-free number, 1-800-521-4041 and refer to the Meeting ID Number 549TP. Dedicated reservationists are on duty 7 days a week from 7:00 A.M.-12:00 midnight Eastern Standard Time.

Travel Insurance
Participants traveling from outside the United States may wish to purchase accident and medical insurance protection during their visit to Boston. Seabury and Smith, an association service organization, offers coverage through their Gateway USA program. Insurance must be purchased for a minimum of 15 days, up to a maximum of 60 days. Prices will vary depending upon the individual's age and choice of benefit package. For more information, please contact Seabury and Smith at +1-202-457-6842.

Hotel Accommodations

A map of the area showing hotel locations is available at http://www.bostonusa.com/visitor/maps.htm. View a list of the meeting hotels. In addition to the meeting hotels, some registrants will be housed at Simmons College, 300 The Fenway, Smith Hall; Tel: +617-521-1096.

It's not too late to reserve a hotel room in Boston! The housing deadline has passed. Contact the hotels directly to make reservations. For all hotels listed, check-in time is 3:00 P.M. and checkout time is 12:00 P.M. Room rates shown were valid until 16 May. These rates do not include a 12.45% state and local taxes.

In Boston, MA, all hotels require a room reservation deposit of $150.00 US per room. Deposits are required for all reservations. Major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and Diners Club) are accepted and will be charged by your assigned hotel. Credit Cards must be valid through June 2001 in order to be considered a valid deposit. Cash, purchase orders, and wire transfers are not accepted .

Confirmations
The AGU Housing Bureau will send you a confirmation. Please review it carefully for accuracy as this is the only confirmation you will receive. Room confirmation will only be sent to the primary person requesting the reservation. If you do not receive a confirmation via e-mail, fax, or mail within 14 days after sending the request, please contact the AGU Housing Bureau toll-free at 1-888-433-0210.

Changes/Cancellations/Refund Policy
All reservation transactions must have been made by 8:00 P.M. EDT on 16 May. Reservations secured by a credit card will be assessed a $15.00 processing fee for cancellations after 9 April. Reservations secured by a check deposit will be assessed a $15.00 processing fee if cancelled at any time through 16 May. Any cancellations made on/after 17 May 2001 will result in forfeiture of the entire $150.00 deposit. If you fail to cancel your confirmed reservation entirely, the hotel will charge a penalty equal to one night of room and tax.

Student Housing at Simmons College
AGU has blocked rooms at the Simmons College to offer a discount housing option for students. The deadline for making reservations for these rooms has passed.
