This is the central information center for the Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting. Anyone trying to contact other meeting attendees can leave a message at this desk. Outside of registration hours it is recommended that messages be left at the attendee's hotel. Also, for basic information regarding Beijing (directions, currency, etc), please visit this desk. ALL speakers are required to check into the Speaker Ready Room at least 24 hours before their presentation. Those presenting on Monday 24 July must check in on Sunday between 1300h and 1700h. The hours of operation are:
Special Needs AGU staff will work with vendors to provide reasonable support for those with special needs participating in sessions and other meeting events. Please check in at the Registration Desk in Exhibit Hall 2 while at the meeting. General Information Regarding China Airport Departure Tax RMB 90Yuan per person is requested for international flights, and RMB 50 Yuan per person for domestic flights. Climate July in Beijing is sunny and hot. Temperatures typically reach 28-38°C (82-100°F), but all meeting rooms are air conditioned. Currency Exchange In China, only RMB is used. However, exchange centers can be found at airports, most hotels and large shopping centers. When exchanging money, please keep your receipt by which can change any remaining RMB back to foreign currency when leaving China. Visa, Master, American Express, Diners Club, and JCB are accepted in many department stores and hotels. But it might be difficult to draw cash with credit cards. The Bank of China and most hotels can cash travelers cheques issued by any foreign bank or financial institution. Participants will need to show a passport and pay a 3 percent commission. Travelers cheques signed over to a third party cannot be cashed in China, but can be presented for collection through the Bank of China. Electricity The electrical voltage in China is 220V 50 Hz. Power sockets available in China are Type A, Type I, and Type C plugs. Adapters are available at most hotels and convenience stores. Tours The local organizing committee, CICCST, has arranged both daily tours, and post-meeting tours. Their will be a Tour Desk in the lobby of the Beijing Convention Center.
