Meet Claire Dworsky, the youngest presenter at 2009 AGU Fall Meeting
At nine years old, Claire Dworksy is the youngest person ever to have presented at an AGU meeting. Claire's poster was part of the Bright Students Training as Research Scientists (Bright STaRS) session during the Fall Meeting.
Combining her enthusiasm for science with her passion for soccer, Claire researched runoff from soccer pitches of grass and synthetic turf to find out if high nutrient levels or heavy metals were in the runoff water. Dr. Adina Paytan, at University of California at Santa Cruz’s Institute of Marine Sciences, helped Claire with her project. Claire describes her research and her experience of being at the Fall Meeting in her contribution to the 2009 Fall Meeting blog.
The local ABC-affiliate television station, KGO-TV, filmed Claire at the Fall Meeting and asked her about her research and motivation — watch the video!

The Bright STaRS program furthers of AGU's mission to encourage the next generations of Earth and space scientists; with AGU's support, Claire, and her fellow Bright STaRS, are exactly the young scientists that sooner or later will be leading their own research teams.
