Organizational Excellence at AGU
28 June 2012
As I approach my two-year anniversary with AGU, I can say that I am very proud of the work we have done over the past 24 months to achieve the goals outlined in AGU’s Strategic Plan. Some of those efforts, such as the inaugural Science Policy Conference held in May or the STEM education program that AGU President Mike McPhaden wrote about in his column last month, are very high profile; other initiatives, although equally significant in terms of their impact, can go largely unnoticed by most AGU members.
In the latter category is an important change taking place at AGU headquarters this summer: the implementation of our new online management system, netFORUM Enterprise, designed by Avectra. After many months of analysis and preparation, we are ready to begin the transition to netFORUM, which will soon be used to manage the majority of AGU’s membership and business operations. By consolidating multiple functions within a single system, we will improve service to our members and thus take another important step toward the goal of Organizational Excellence.
The new system will not only give AGU staff more and better tools for handling data and conducting transactions with members, subscribers, and other AGU constituents; it will also provide a more intuitive and efficient interface for members seeking to update a profile, renew a membership, or make a purchase. Instead of having to use their AGU ID, members will be able to use their email address to access account information or use the member directory orread the online edition of Eos. This change, along with other improvements, will be gradually incorporated into AGU’s online member interface between now and August.
By now you should have received an email with instructions on how to access AGU’s new system. I strongly encourage you to log in, review your profile, and make updates wherever necessary. Having current information for our members will help us to serve you most effectively. If you have questions or need assistance with revising your member records, contact the Member Service Center team at service@agu.org.
Please make time to confirm that the email address on file for you at AGU is valid. Your email address will be required to access your member record later this fall when electing your new Board and Council leaders, so it’s essential that you verify it in the next few weeks.
The polls open on 4 September, and candidate information will soon be available. Because your involvement in choosing AGU’s leaders is vitally important, I urge you to ensure that your membership is current and your profile information is up-to-date so that you can participate in the election process ahead.
Sincerely,
Christine McEntee, Executive Director/CEO, American Geophysical Union
