About AGU Science Policy and Public Affairs

The mission of AGU's Public Affairs department is public policy outreach, education, and information. The department maintains a continuous flow of information between AGU's member scientists and legislators and facilitates the participation of our members in the legislative process. The department tracks current legislation, hearings, briefings, and other relevant events on Capitol Hill in order to inform AGU members of the latest developments in Washington, D.C., and how they affect the scientific community. The department can assist a member's involvement in the legislative process by arranging visits with a member’s Congressional delegation to express his or her opinions. Furthermore, members who wish to keep informed of current events on Capitol Hill can sign up for AGU Legislative Science Alerts (ASLAs) to track the evolution of science policy.
