Publication Fees for AGU Journals

AGU has reduced publication fees for articles submitted in 2011. If you submitted in 2010, use the publication unit calculator.

Fee Changes in 2011

The most significant changes are that color is free and the publication fee is a flat fee.

See a list of specific fees by journal PDF.

Authors can minimize potential fees before submitting a contribution for publication in any AGU journal by using the Web-accessible, simplified calculator. This calculator can also be used to determine article length; several journals (e.g., Geophysical Research Letters, Global Biogeochemical Cycles, Water Resources Research) have strict length restrictions.

For more information about the reduced pay structure, see Eos article on Publication Fees PDF for AGU journals.

Author Choice for Open Access

AGU journals offer authors the opportunity to make their articles open for others to read with no restriction or fee. Authors choosing this option pay a single fee of $3500 ($2500 for Geophysical Research Letters), which is all inclusive except for excess length fees. This option, called Author Choice, provides

  • Unfettered access to the article for all readers from the moment of publication;
  • Permission to deposit the PDF version in institutional repositories so long as the repository accepts AGU copyright permissions;
  • Continued copyright protection to prevent unauthorized uses of the author’s work.

The Author Choice option is not available for Earth Interactions and Nonlinear Geophysics.

AGU galvanizes a community of Earth and space scientists that collaboratively advances and communicates science and its power to ensure a sustainable future.
