Arthur Holmes: Originator of Spreading Ocean Floor Hypothesis

Arthur Holmes first published the hypothesis of the spreading ocean floor in 1931, a fact not generally realized. In addition, many other well-known hypotheses antedate publication by their ‘inventors’ by periods of time ranging from several years to more them 100 years.
