Display Ad Information for Advertisers
AGU has a nondiscrimination and freedom of access policy. All advertisers must attest to nondiscrimination regarding recruiting, hiring, and promoting. AGU acknowledges that citizenship can be recognized as a legitimate requirement for some positions.
Advertisements with "Reply By" deadlines that are less than 14 days from the publication date will not be accepted.
Each request for advertisement by mail must include requested publication dates and complete billing information, title for the advertisement, and scientific discipline or category. Text for ads should be "ready to publish." All advertisements should be proof read before submission. AGU will not correct grammar and spelling.
Ads must be scheduled in advance to qualify for frequency discounts. The prices in the table below are for camera ready hardcopy or ready to publish electronic files only. Electronically submitted advertisements must meet column specifications shown in the table below. Only the file formats indicated will be accepted.

Color Rates (additional charge)
Color rates are per page, per insertion. Charges for color separations will be billed to the advertiser at cost. For 4 color process, color negatives must be accompanied by a cromalin or matchprint with color bars. Electronic submissions must be accompanied by at least a laser color print. Use of color may affect placement of an advertisement within any given issue of Eos.

Electronic File Formats
Unfortunately Eos can not accept camera ready copy. The ONLY acceptable formats are:
- PDF with the following characteristics: 1) Created in Acrobat Distiller, not Writer, 2) Not less than 300dpi, 3) If color, CMYK, 4) If black and white, grayscale, and 5) With embedded fonts. NOTE that PDF files are the only format that can be sent via mail.,
OR - TIFF for PC (at least 300 DPI grayscale or CMYK if color),
OR - Illustrator EPS for PC (with embedded fonts or outlined fonts).
How to Submit
Electronic files indicated in the list above may be submitted via Zip Disk or through AGU's FTP site at <ftp://agu.org/incoming/eosads/>. Eos Advertising must be notified in advance, via email or phone, of any FTP upload. Eos Advertising must have an insertion order or purchase order prior to any FTP upload.
When submitting a display ad via e-mail, send as a high resolution PDF (at least 300 DPI) as an e-mail attachment, along with dates of publication, a billing address and contact information. Eos Advertising must have an insertion order or purchase order number or credit card information to schedule an ad. Credit card information can be transmitted securely by calling or faxing Eos Advertising.
FTP Instructions
Note that in all FTP methods described below, directory and file listings will be invisible. You will not see any files that you upload. Don't freak.
Netscape Navigator
- Notify Eos Advertising of your intent to upload files. Be prepared to supply the insertion or postal order and file names and extensions.
- Type ftp://agu.org/incoming/eosads/ in the Location Bar and hit enter.
- From the File menu select Upload File.
- From the Upload file window, select the appropriate files and click Open.
- You may wish to upload files using the Drag-and-Drop method described below in Internet Explorer instructions.
Internet Explorer
- Notify Eos Advertising of your intent to upload files. Be prepared to supply the insertion or postal order and file names and extensions.
- Type ftp://agu.org/incoming/eosads/ in the Address Bar and hit enter.
- Open your file browsing utility (Windows Explorer - PC, Finder - Mac).
- If necessary, scale, resize or move windows so that both Internet Explorer and your file utility are visable at the same time.
- Drag-and-Drop selected files from the file browser to the Internet Explorer window.
FTP Client Application (i.e. CuteFTP, WS-FTP, Voyager, etc.)
- Notify Eos Advertising of your intent to upload files. Be prepared to supply the insertion or postal order and file names and extensions.
- Configure a new account using the following settings
- Host Name: ftp.agu.org
- Host Type: Automatic Detection
- User ID: anonymous login
- Initial Directories:
- Remote or Host: /incoming/eosads/
- Local: [directory path of the files you wish to upload]
- Transfer files from your local directory to /incoming/eosads. The method varies depending upon FTP client software being used.
Online Ad Information
Positions Available and Student Opportunity ads that appear in Eos also automatically appear online on AGU's Job Listings page for three weeks (accessible to AGU members only). Ads must first appear in a print issue of Eos—we do not offer web-only ads.
Online ads are updated every Tuesday. There is no additional charge for this service nor do you need to put in a special request to appear online. You do not need to be an AGU member to place an ad.
