LaTeX for AGU Journals–Updated 2008

AGU manuscripts are submitted, reviewed, edited, and published in electronic format. One such format, XML, is AGU's version of record and is preserved by AGU as part of its long-term archival commitment. Formatting for your archived paper is embedded directly into your file. To make the preparation of your paper as efficient and economical as possible, we ask that you use AGU's style files only and that you do not introduce into your files any extraneous formatting, macros or shortcuts. For information on how to prepare your manuscript for submission and production, go to Submitting to AGU Journals.

Current AGU LaTeX manuscript preparation files are available at:
ftp://ftp.agu.org/journals/latex/journals/Manuscript-Preparation
Included are the following: template, style file, and BibTeX files.

Begin With AGU's New Template

AGU's new template agutmpl.tex is provided for download so that you may use it either as a guide or to create your LaTeX document. Simply insert the letter code for the appropriate journal at the \documentclass level. Note that G-Cubed is now included.

AGU's New Style File

AGU's updated LaTeX style file agutex.cls, has been designed to provide authors with advanced formatting capabilities in a single, user-friendly style file. It is no longer necessary to use different style files for different journals.

Making Your Initial Submission

Please submit your manuscript in draft mode. Draft mode produces double-spaced copy with a time and date of production stamp at the bottom. Figures and tables are positioned at the end of the file in this mode. For questions regarding submitted manuscripts, contact the editorial assistant for your journal.

Making Your Final Submission

For submission of final files, use draft mode and comment out any graphics (e.g., \includegraphics, \figbox); submit figures separately in .eps or .tif format. For displayed equations, make sure they break before the margins. Insert \end{article}command after \end{thebibliography}so that captions and tables are included in the output. Upload your final files through GEMS.
