Geochemical Cycling of Volatiles

To this point, I have discussed regional and global coupling of tectonics and climate. The ``rock cycle'' of erosion and deposition has a long-term effects on climate and the suitability of the Earth's surface for life as deep burial sequesters material from surface organisms. Such cycling is illustrated here by examining ``volatile'' compounds, including carbon species and water, that directly influence climate and life.
