AGU 2008–2009 Congressional Science Fellow
Maggie Walser
Maggie Walser has been selected as AGU's 2008–2009 Congressional Science Fellow. Walser, who completed her Ph.D. in Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine in 2007, will be working in the office of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on a variety of science, energy, and environmental issues.
Her placement followed an in-depth orientation and interview process. In September, Walser joined the ranks of more than 30 other congressional science fellows from other organizations for a 2-week orientation at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) headquarters in Washington, D. C. After the orientation session, the fellows underwent a lengthy interview process to determine their placement with various congressional and committee offices.
Walser's Ph.D. thesis dealt with composition and photochemistry of aerosols. After graduate school, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Council for Science and the Environment in Washington, DC. She received her B.S. in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, with a minor in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of California, Irvine in 2002. Walser hopes to contribute to climate change issues and improve scientific communication with Congress.
