The Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism (GP) Section of AGU embraces several fields of research focused on understanding the properties of the present geomagnetic field and its behavior in the historical and geological past. Areas of interest include the short-term changes in the magnetic field, crustal magnetic anomalies, magnetostratigraphy, paleomagnetism as applied to tectonic and structural problems, the physics and chemistry of magnetic rocks and minerals, environmental magnetism, magnetic anisotropy in rock fabric studies, electromagnetism applied to Earth structure, and more.

On these pages, you can find out about research in the GP section. In addition, the site includes geomagnetic/paleomagnetic resources including links to data resources, software and paleomagnetic laboratories, as well as educational resources for teachers and students.

Section Leadership
