The National Ocean Council released a draft National Ocean Policy Implementation Plan for public comment. This draft Implementation Plan moves the Federal government forward in a strategic manner to address some of the most pressing challenges and overlapping issues facing the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes. Public comment is being accepted on this draft Implementation Plan until 27 February 2012.

2012 AOGS – AGU (WPGM) Joint Assembly.  13-17 August 2012, Singapore. Abstract deadline 12 March. Early bird registration deadline 4 June.

Call for nominations for AGU medals and awards, including the Maurice Ewing Medal “for significant original contributions to the scientific understanding of the processes in the ocean; for the advancement of oceanographic engineering, technology, and instrumentation; and for outstanding service to the marine sciences.” Nominations due 16 March.

Presentation of the Ocean Sciences Award and the Ocean Sciences Early Career awards took place during the AGU Fall meeting as part of the Ocean Sciences section luncheon.  The Sverdrup and Carson lectures will be delivered during the 2012 Ocean Sciences meeting in Salt Lake City.
