Recognizing Efforts to Use Science to Benefit Economically Developing Nations
The International Award is given annually to a mid-career or senior scientist team, individual, or group in recognition of making an outstanding contribution to furthering the Earth and space sciences and using science for the benefit of society in developing nations.
Successful candidates can demonstrate a scientific contribution that has made an impact and provided a benefit to society through education, training, capacity building, or scientific outreach.
This award recognizes the diversity in the Earth and space science community across the globe.
Honor Benefits
Recipients receive the following:
- An engraved award
- Recognition at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded
- Travel support to AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded
- Two tickets to the Honors Banquet at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded
Criteria for a Successful Nomination
Successful award candidates show dedication to the Earth and space sciences in economically developing countries through:
- Scientific contribution in the form of a publication or award, and/or service on a committee, board, etc.
- Benefit to society (education, training, capacity building monitoring, scientific outreach, etc.)
- Contribution across the Union or other Earth science societies, committee boards, including editorial, volunteer work, etc.)
- Acting as the main driver of the science when working in collaborative teams
- Diversity (compared to past winners; gender, country, continent, topic of research, etc.)
Eligibility
Nominee
The nominee must be a middle-career or experienced scientist and may be an individual or a team.
