Recognizing Outstanding Early Career Contributions in Tectonophysics
The Jason Morgan Early Career Award is presented annually to an early career scientist for outstanding and significant contributions to tectonophysics through a combination of research, education, and outreach activities. Successful nominees are no more than six years past the completion of their Ph.D. or highest terminal degree by the nomination deadline.

About the Tectonophysics Section
The Tectonophysics Section is highly interdisciplinary, with strong ties to other Sections including: Seismology, Geodesy, Planetary Sciences, Geomagnetism/Paleomagnetism, and Volcanology/Geochemistry/Petrology. Its members are interested in geodynamic processes and deformation from the scale of individual crystals to mantle convection and plate tectonics through the study of rock mechanics, mineral physics, seafloor geology and morphology, continental and marine tectonics and structural geology, and the thermal regime and mass balance of the Earth.
The section supports scientific discussion and collaboration among its members, and provides opportunities for members to engage with AGU and other scientists in their research area.
Eligibility
- an active AGU member
- affiliated with the Tectonophysics section
- an early-career scientist no more than six years from receiving their Ph.D.
