Student grants for petrology and geochemistry research
Beginning in 2021, The Lawrence A. Taylor Research Fund in Petrology and Geochemistry, provided through the generosity of Dong-Hwa Shin (Dawn) Taylor, will provide $4000 grants for two PhD students pursuing studies in the fields of Petrology and/or Geochemistry and who demonstrate excellent research in their field. The grant will cover the financial burden associated with candidate’s research studies.

CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS
To demonstrate eligibility, you must fulfill the following criteria and requirements for your application:
- Be a current AGU student member. Applicants do not have to hold primary membership in AGU’s Volcanology, Geochemistry and Petrology Section but must be engaged in the study of Petrology and/or Geochemistry.
- Be currently enrolled in a doctoral program
- Conduct research in the fields of Petrology and/or Geochemistry
- Upload a current CV/resume
- Upload a one-page proposal narrative comprised of an executive summary and statement of purpose
- Upload a one-page detailed budget, including financial and equipment needs, and brief budget justification
- Include a personal statement (illustrating merit of project and describing other funding sources), not to exceed 1 page
- Include two letters of support - one from applicant’s PhD Advisor and one from their Academic Advisor stating the applicant is in good academic standing
This grant will carry a financial award of up to $4,000. The award must be used to relieve the financial burden associated with the winners’ research studies.
Recipients will be required to submit a one-page final report on the impact of their research grant within two years of completion of their research, detailing both the usage and significance of the funds. Reports will be shared with the President of the Volcanology, Geochemistry and Petrology Section.
