About the Meeting

The Ocean Visions Biennial Summit 2023 was convened by Ocean Visions. At the time, the ocean was under threat from multiple pressures, none greater than those driven by greenhouse gas pollution, which accelerated overheating and acidification. Rising ocean temperatures contributed to deoxygenation, sea level rise, and widespread disruption of essential marine ecosystem functions and services. The Summit underscored the urgent need to generate and scale innovative, effective solutions to address the ocean–climate crisis.

Participants gathered to share and discuss cutting-edge advancements in ocean science, engineering, policy, governance, and economics aimed at delivering trajectory-changing solutions to climate impacts on the ocean within 7–10 years. The event was held at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta from 4–6 April 2023, with options for online attendance. The Summit welcomed a diverse, solutions-oriented community, including scientists, academics, policymakers, entrepreneurs, innovators, funders, and individuals with Indigenous knowledge of oceans and climate solutions.
