Snap-shot from a simulation of mantle convection at Ra=10**6. Image displays the isosurfaces of the residual temperature with yellow corresponding to 0.1 (upwelling) and blue corresponding to -0.1 (downwelling). The red solid sphere shows the inner boundary of the 3D shell corresponding to the core. A hybrid radial basis function—pseudospectral method for thermal convection in a 3-D spherical shell.

Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems (G3) is an electronic journal that publishes research papers on the chemistry, physics, and biology of Earth and planetary processes. Interdisciplinary papers are especially encouraged. G3 seeks original scientific contributions pertaining to understanding the Earth as a system, including observational, experimental, and theoretical investigations of the solid Earth, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere at all spatial and temporal scales. G3 strives to be at the cutting edge of electronic publishing by encouraging the innovative use of data analysis and visualization formats.

Published by AGU and the Geochemical Society.

Impact Factor 2.626 in the 2009 Journal Citation Reports
