Commitment to sustainability & reasons for renovating

AGU’s members believe that being better environmental stewards isn’t just about personal choices; it’s also about the decisions made by employers, owners, architects and engineers.

After it became clear in 2013 that AGU’s aging headquarters would require a major renovation, the AGU Board of Directors decided to take on the challenge of upgrading the space in a sustainable way, such that the building could become a living representation of AGU’s mission, science and purpose.

The now-complete renovation incorporates the engineering principles of reduction, reclamation, absorption and generation to target its net zero energy goals. The project has earned numerous awards and honors, and AGU has published data about the renovation in the hopes of inspiring others to implement sustainable solutions and technologies in building or renovation projects
