The scientific and scholarly publishing world has changed dramatically over the past 10 to 15 years. Today there are many, many more requirements, options, and processes around publishing your research, as well as evolving legislation and heated controversy.

This session will enlighten early career and experienced researchers alike to recent developments in 21st century scientific publishing, with presentations on emerging policies, practices, and technologies, such as preprint servers, altmetrics, ORCiD accounts, public data repositories, and open access publications, as well as recommendations, ethical considerations, and cautionary tales (specifically around predatory practices and copyright ownership.) The session will also consider newsworthy issues, including the European Union's Plan S, the University of California - Elsevier contract negotiations, and any late breaking items.
