U14A - Fluids in the Earth
Lecture Instructional
The exposure of human societies to geologic hazards, in particular, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and related phenomena, has increased significantly as population has increased, and development has moved into areas of increased risk. Additionally, society's increasing dependence on Earth's limited resources raises new challenges about how to use these resources wisely and sustainably, and manage the risks associated with resource depletion.  The afternoon sessions will address a range of new approaches and perspectives on these topics, spanning earthquake and volcanic hazards, fluids in the Earth, and energy in the Earth.
