TH25H - Diversity and Inclusion in the Earth and Space Sciences: Leading Policies and Practices – A View from the AGU Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee
Other Events

Building on the work and recommendations of the 2017-2018 AGU Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Task Force, AGU adopted an updated Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan in December 2018 and appointed a new standing AGU D&I Advisory Committee in early 2019.  This committee of 18 members represents the professional breath of AGU membership and additional non-member expertise in D&I and is responsible for advising AGU on the planning and execution of leading diversity and inclusion organizational practices. Early committee work is now underway to coordinate with and help support AGU program committees, establish annual D&I metrics and assess progress through an annual D&I dashboard report provided to AGU Council and Board.  Building on the evidence that diversity is essential for excellence in the Earth and space sciences, this Town Hall Meeting and panel discussion will explore efforts and practices underway across AGU as the organization seeks to live out its bold vision to become a model organization for diversity and inclusion, use data to inform policy and program decisions, and establish clear D&I-related policies and procedures across all operations and proactive external AGU engagement. Audience engagement and feedback will also be sought to help inform the future work of the committee.
