I am a first generation college student.

Volunteer experience that relates to this position:

My most closely related volunteer experience is serving as a session convener for a cryosphere session at the AGU Fall Meeting for the last three years and assisting with session organization/convening at Geological Society of America (GSA) and West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) workshop meetings.

Q&A

As one of the elected leaders of your section, how will you partner with your president and president-elect to communicate with and engage your members to help implement AGU’s strategic plan including its mission and vision?

As an early career researcher and first-generation college student, the strong sense of community in the Cryosphere division supported me through my growth from student to postdoctoral researcher. As I embark on the next step of my career as an assistant professor, I am excited by the opportunity to give back to a community that has provided me so much support. As secretary of the Cryosphere division, I would look forward to assisting and serving members of our community as well as aiding our section in communicating the importance of cryosphere research across disciplinary boundaries to other AGU sections and the public. The role of the secretary includes facilitating clear and direct communication between executive committee leadership and members of the cryosphere community at every career stage. I would work closely with the president/president-elect to ensure that the diverse perspectives of members of our community are heard, respected, and represented. The Cryosphere section has made strides toward a more equitable and diverse future by initiating the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion/Canvassing committees, and I would look forward to working closely with these efforts to grow our section and increase inclusivity and participation at all career stages.
