Q&A

As one of the elected leaders of your section, how will you partner with your president and president-elect to communicate with and engage your members to help implement AGU’s strategic plan including its mission and vision?

Collaboration and connection are key to both solving our most pressing societal issues and for building great teams. I believe that collaboration means bringing the section leadership and committee co-chairs together for key decisions and priorities on section activities throughout the year. Our section is still young, and it is an exciting time to build our membership, our programs, and our broader GeoHealth network with partner organizations. Collaboration also means support for committees and motivated members working towards our section goals and providing the broader membership pathways and opportunities to voice their priorities and ideas. I also believe transparent communication and decision making is important in a leadership role, and I will strive to support the president and president-elect in communicating with our membership. A new perspective can help identify what information or opportunities might not be as widely known or understood among section membership. It is also important that we listen to our membership, are open to honest feedback, see which voices are underrepresented and invite them to the table, and constantly ask ourselves how can we better center equity.
