PA52A - Science to Action: Scientists as Citizens Contributing Skills to Policy Making I
Other Events

Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally and the Union of Concerned Scientists will host introductory talks followed by a panel of earth science professionals who have made contributions to their communities through engagement with different levels of government.

Presenters will discuss skills scientists bring to the policy process and the range of options from acting within a university environment to running for office to engaging in situations overseas. What hurdles do scientists face to getting more involved? What motivates them? This session will contribute to an ongoing conversation on civic engagement by AGU members, and members of the scientific community more broadly. Attendees will leave with a broader sense of the range of ways they can bring their expertise to their own communities or take their skills to new communities.
