Recognizing Outstanding Achievements

The Ambassador Award is given annually to between one and five honorees in recognition of their outstanding contributions to one or more of the following areas: societal impact, service to the Earth and space community, scientific leadership, and promotion of talent/career pool.

The Ambassador Award honors individuals whose achievements extend beyond those recognized by traditional scientific discipline awards.

Honor Benefits
Recipients receive the following:

  • An engraved award
  • Induction into the AGU College of Fellows if the honoree has been an AGU member for three consecutive years and is not already a Fellow
  • Recognition at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded
  • Two tickets to the Honors Banquet at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awarded

Criteria for a Successful Nomination

Nominees are evaluated on the following:
  • Scope of Impact (quantity): number and diversity of people or communities impacted
  • Duration of impact or effort (time)
  • Level of impact (quality)
  • Level of engagement or involvement across the Earth and space science community
  • Extent of reach beyond Earth and Space community (who noticed it, whom did it engage)
  • Whether the effort was pioneering
  • Ethical risk taking for common good
  • Multidisciplinary impact (crossing disciplinary boundaries or encompassing many disciplines within or outside of Earth and space science)
  • Alignment with AGU strategic goals and envisioned future

Eligibility

Nominee
The nominee must be an early-career, middle -career or experienced scientist.
