How to Choose the Right Session
Submitting an abstract to AGU25 is an exciting step—it's your opportunity to share your research with thousands of Earth and space scientists from around the world. To make the most of that opportunity, it’s essential to choose the right session. A well-aligned submission increases the likelihood of acceptance and ensures your work reaches the audience most interested in your research.
Understanding Sections and Sessions
AGU organizes its annual meeting around broad scientific Sections, such as Atmospheric Sciences, Geodesy or Planetary Sciences. Sessions may be:
- Organized within one Section
- Co-organized across multiple Sections to reflect interdisciplinary topics
- Or indexed to particular scientific themes using AGU's index terms
Each session is managed by one or more conveners—scientists who proposed the session and are responsible for reviewing abstract submissions and selecting presentations.
Steps to Finding the Right Fit for Your Abstract
- Choose Your Section: As you start your abstract submission, you’ll identify the Section that best aligns with your field of research.
- Search and Review Accepted Sessions: Browse sessions or use the AGU25 Session Finder to browse sessions that best fit your research. Read the session descriptions carefully—some are broad, while others are very specific.
- Submit Your Abstract to a Session: Once you’ve identified the session that best aligns with your research within the Session Finder application, select it, click “Go Submit” to take you back to the abstract submission form where you’ll finalize your submission. You’ll be able to edit your abstract until the deadline on Wednesday, 30 July 2025.
Helpful Tips
- Look for co-organized, interdisciplinary sessions if your work spans multiple fields
- Don’t hesitate to reach out to a session convener or program committee if you’re unsure whether your work is a good fit
Choosing the right session doesn’t just help your chances of acceptance—it helps you connect with the people most likely to collaborate, cite or be inspired by your work.
