Apply to be Chair of the AGU Annual Meeting Program Committee (2027–2029)

Application deadline: 7 August 2026

Submit a CV and letter of interest for the position of Chair, AGU Annual Meeting Program Committee.

The AGU Annual Meeting is the premier gathering for the Earth and space sciences community. AGU is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Chair of the AGU Annual Meeting Program Committee — the body responsible for developing the scientific content for the Annual Meeting. The committee is composed of representatives from each AGU Section and is led by the Chair.

About the role

Working collaboratively with committee members, AGU staff, the Meetings Committee, Council, and AGU leadership, the Chair ensures broad disciplinary and transdisciplinary representation while fostering innovative session formats and incorporating timely, "late-breaking" topics. The Chair helps guide program development that aligns with AGU's overall policies and strategies, and recommends policies affecting the scientific program, the broader community, and the convener and author experience.

This three-year term (1 January 2027 – 31 December 2029) includes oversight of the scientific programs for:

  • AGU27 — Washington, D.C.
  • AGU28 — San Diego, CA
  • AGU29 — Chicago, IL

As a member and leader of the Program Committee, the Chair plays an active role in shaping a high-quality, forward-looking scientific program by engaging scientists to contribute to and participate in the Annual Meeting.

Time commitment and support

The role is approximately 10% of the Chair's time, depending on the individual's management style. An annual honorarium is provided, and travel expenses are covered to attend relevant meetings.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate is an active scientist with breadth and/or knowledge of the AGU strategic plan, AGU disciplines, and topics affecting geosciences, the environment, and AGU as an organization. Candidates must be highly organized, dynamic, and possess strong leadership skills, and should be passionate about and supportive of the value and impact of this vibrant meeting.

Telephone interviews of selected applicants will be conducted in late September – early October 2026.
