Allison Penko, Coastal Engineer at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and Assistant Program Manager at the Office of Naval Research
Allison Penko has been performing fundamental and applied research at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory for the past 10 years. Her work focuses on the numerical simulation and observation of the complex interactions between waves, currents, and sediment in coastal regions from the micro- to mesoscale including coupled seafloor/ocean boundary layer dynamics, shallow water bathymetric morphology, and storm surge and inundation prediction. She has also been detailed part-time as an Assistant Program Manager at the Office of Naval Research since 2018. She helps manage multiple projects that support the transition of environmental prediction capabilities to the U.S. Navy.
Bob Dziak, Research Oceanographer at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Lab
My name is Bob Dziak and I lead the Acoustics Program at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Lab in Newport, OR. My research entails using underwater sound to explore and characterize ocean soundscapes. I study a wide range of phenomena from undersea earthquakes and volcanoes, polar ice dynamics, to the calls of large baleen whales.
David Revell, Revell Coastal
Dr. David Revell is a coastal geomorphologist with 25+ years of experience studying marine, coastal and estuarine processes, in particularly in the science and management of coastal processes and climate change. He has served as a technical advisor and facilitator to multiple, state, federal and local jurisdictions related to ocean and coastal management especially at the intersection of how physical processes and human alterations affect coastal hazards, habitats, and human use. He has been involved in a wide variety of contentious community stakeholder processes ranging from evaluating erosion hazard alternatives to climate change vulnerability impacts to lagoon and fisheries management, water quality, and marine spatial planning. Much of his work involves physical process research, and GIS to facilitate communication of science to inform decision making. Dr. Revell currently advises multiple local jurisdictions and agencies on dune and sediment management, climate change, estuary processes, inlet management, and local coastal management program updates. Dr. Revell has a reputation for outside the box thinking to innovatively solve complex physical and societal problems.
