I am a Scientist Emeritus with the USGS in Reston, VA. My research focuses on how climate variability and change drive regional drought, flood, and fire frequencies in the U.S., and in defining baselines of environmental change at seasonal to millennial timescales in the Americas. I am a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (2009) and have received separate awards from the ESA (2002), AWRA (2005), GSA (2012), and AMQUA (2020). I co-founded the USA National Phenology Network (usanpn.org).
